Happy Earth Day! Environmental Shoes by Naya
Posted by Sofia TucksonApr 23

Dear Readers,
Weve done posts on environmentally-considerate shoes before. But this Earth Day, Im particularly impressed with the carbon-lite footprint of Naya Shoes.
Whenever possible, Naya includes vegetable-tanned leathers, natural or recycled fabrics, water-based cements, 80 percent recycled paper boxes, soy-based inks, water-based glue, reusable shoe bags and shoe forms made with recycled PET. Not only that, but theyre more chic than many environmental shoes, nest-ce pas?
Take a look at Nayas other shoes here, and let us know your favorite environmental shoes or what youre doing to lessen your carbon footprint, literally! Are you buying used? Organizing shoe swaps with your friends? Buying from non-sweatshop, environmental companies?
Witness my adorable new Maize sandals after the jump!
This is not my first pair of Naya shoes, nor will it be my last. I have a couple pairs of heels that I just love. Naya has such a high standard for comfort, and their shoes look so classic that I never worry about wearing them for a day out (work, lunch, dinner, drinks, dance parties, art gallery shows, rooftop parties).

There is elastic goring, shown below, to help the ankle strap fit optimally, since we ladies dont all have the same size ankle, and this is not a heavy, but not necessarily a light shoe either.

This is a vegetable tanned leather upper in a wedge sandal style with a round, open toe that maximizes comfort. The double buckle is a nice decorative touch, as is the crisscross strap detail (which also serves to stabilize the shoe on your foot). A smooth lining and cushioning insole add inner comfort, while the raffia platform adds style. The wedge heel is 3.25 inches. I have absolutely no qualms, except that theyre a bit heavier than the shoes I usually wear, but I do not generally wear wedge sandals, so I expected them to be heavier than my kitten heels. Big is in!

As a side editorial note, I am disclosing the material connections associated with this post, i.e. that these Maize sandals were a gift from Naya. Thanks guys! Its still a bit too cold in New York to wear them without tights, but I love them!
