Summer is here and this is the right time to make some sunshine changes in your wardrobe. As usual, things are getting difficult for plus size women.  But help is here. Take a look at the summer fashion trends and some wise advice before you head to the shops to take your pick. Summer is all about bold colours, bright flowers, shimmering accessories that can catch the summer sun and make you glitter with hope and fantasies. This year is all about bolds, metallics and florals along with a touch of the golden glitter of the 70s theme, ‘old is gold’.

Animal prints

Animal prints are in this year too but with more attractive colours like blues and green instead of the browns and greys. But when you are plus size you must choose animal prints carefully. Zebra prints are ideal for plus sizes as they have vertical and elongated stripes. As black and white are still colours that are in fashion, you will never make a mistake there. When you choose other animal prints to stay in vogue, make sure that they are smaller prints and in compliance with your body size. There is a wide range to choose from when it comes to styles. You can go for tunic tops, halter dresses or just simple animal print dresses that can be teamed with the ever so fashionable leather jackets. If you are not in a mood to try animal prints in your dress, go for accessories like an animal printed scarf, clutch or even animal printed ankle boots which are very much in fashion now.

Stripes

Plus sizes can try wider stripes now as they are in fashion. Just make sure that they are not too wide as they could contribute to your weight. You don’t need to attract ridicule on a beautiful summer day. When you use stripes, just make sure that you have some heels on. There are a variety of footwear styles to choose from this year. Starting with the good old pumps that suit any plus sizes and going on to the more exotic varieties like the faltforms, espadrilles and wedges, this year has lots of styles for you to bask in. If you are more fond of thinner heels, you can go for  cone heels or stilettos depending on your comfort. Straps are very much in and so are gladiators, thin straps, surgical straps anything at all for summer fun.

Florals

Another trend that has caught up from last year, this year they are bigger and bolder. Not a great idea when you are in the plus size category. But floral prints bring out the feminine side of you and hence this is not a trend that you can completely avoid just because the flowers are big and bold. You can stick to medium sized floral prints to stay in style. You also have the option to mix solid colours with florals which is good in camouflaging your flabby areas.

So if you have heavy hips, go for floral skirts that will cover your cellulite. You can also team floral tops with black leggings. If that too doesn’t appeal to you, keep the florals minimal with floral accessories like bags, purses. Floral printed shoes etc. while wearing a plain or black coloured dress. You can add a touch of metallics like gold cuffs, belts or even one of those gemstone statement pieces that will go well with your plain dress.

Vivid colours

Summer’s all about vibrant colours and hence bold and bright hues do not come as s surprise at all. Pinks, oranges, yellows, greens are all colours to look out for this summer. But use them judiciously. Though colour blocking is very much in, this may not be your style as colour blocking can create breaks in you silhouette making you look wider and shorter. Either you must stick to vertical colour blocking styles or use just tops that have plain colours which you can team it up with jeans. Denims are very much in and hence denim jackets too are a possibility if you want to try plain bold colours on you.

Lace, Crochet

Lace, crochet, macramé, or anything that is handmade and reminds us of countryside are in. So the possibilities for you here are trying lace and crochet jackets, floral dresses with crochet collars, tops with lace and crochet detailing, crochet bags, lace detailing in shoes macramé and crochet jewellery etc.  You can also team them up with the ballet dresses which are made of soft tulle and tissue which are good for plus sizes. How about lace and tulle combinations or a crochet and white dress as minimalism too is very much in.

This is a trend that will help plus sizes a lot. Plain clothes especially white and black can do wonders for your curves than printed ones. Make use of this minimalistic trend by donning plain fitted dresses in nudes, blacks, whites and beiges and teaming them up with bold bright bags or metallic accessories to add some interest in your entire outfit.

Leather

Leather jackets are of great help when it comes to plus sizes. Any style of dress can be teamed with a jacket to give a touch of elegance and modesty or add interest to the entire outfit. So any summer print you plan to wear, keep a leather jacket ready to adorn them. Leather is not just popular as jackets this year. You can use them as sandals, shoes, bag or boots. Printed boots are a novelty this year. So if you want to go for a minimalistic trend, accessorize them with animal printed boots, bags or purses for a change.

Fruit prints

If you are in a mood to try fruit prints on you, go for the elongated ones like bananas and not the oranges and lemons which would make you look rounded and more fat. Make sure that the prints are smaller in size and don’t add to your width. You may team a fruity printed top with a well fitted jean or leggings too.
